'Lucky' Buns (Ping On Bao) 平安包

Cheung Chau (長洲) is an island part of Hong Kong. The origin of these 'Lucky' Buns are unknown but there is Cheung Chau Bun Festival every year and these buns are the main feature. They are vegetarian and it comes in three fillings: sesame, lotus and adzuki bean paste. There should be 'peace' (ping on 平安) written in Chinese on the bun but nowadays the shops are writing their name instead.

Cheung Chau (長洲) es una isla de Hong Kong. El origen de los bollos 'de la suerte' es desconocido pero los que son importantes durante la fiesta de los bollos de Cheung Chau cada año. Son vegetarianos y hay tres opciones de relleno: de sésamo, de semilla de loto y de anko. Normalmente se escribe 'la paz' (ping on 平安) sobre los bollos pero hoy en día se escribe el nombre de la pastelería.

Cheung Chau (長洲) est une petite île de Hong Kong. L'origine du pain 'porte-bonheur' est inconnue mais il est très important pendant le festival du pain de Cheung Chau chaque année. C'est végétarien et il y a trois farcis de choisir: de sésame, de graine de lotus et d’anko. D'habitude il s'écrit 'la paix (ping on 平安)' sur le pain mais actuellement les pâtisseries écrivent sus noms.

We went to a traditional bakery shop where the 'peace (ping on 平安)' is written on the bun as well as the name of the filling. We chose sesame paste (麻蓉) and adzuki bean paste (豆沙). Each bun is 7HKD (90p). A bun is as big as my hand and they look beautiful. Since they're purely made of flour, water and baking powder, the buns are a little dry. Nonetheless, these buns should give us luck now.

Fuimos a una pastelería tradicional donde se escriben 'la paz' (ping on 平安) y el nombre del rellano sobre los bollos. Probamos los bollos de sésamo (麻蓉) y de anko (豆沙). Un bollo cuesta 7HKD (menos de 0.75 EUR). El bollo es tan grande como mi mano. El bollo es un poco seco sin graso porque están hechos de la harina de trigo, el agua y la levadura en polvo solamente. No obstante, eses bollos deben darnos suerte.

Nous sommes allées à une pâtisserie traditionnelle où il s'écrit 'la paix (ping on 平安)' et le nom de la garniture sur le pain. Nous avons acheté un pain avec la confiture de sésame (麻蓉) et un pain avec la confiture d'azuki (豆沙). Un pain est 7HKD (moins de 0.75EUR). Le pain est aussi grand que mon main. Le pain est un peau sèche parce qu’il est en farine, eau et levure. Néanmoins le pain doit nous porter bonheur.
